This role was in a brand new startup company for producing innovative, autonomously flying (AI powered) drone systems in wildfire detection, forestry and agriculture. The results achieved per project category were:

• Research: Established the foundations for research in scientific software, drone hardware, 3 environmental science reports and multiple internal publications of research & technology reports, creating longer-term company plans.

•

• Software development: Devised 3 in embedded, 2 in meteorology (back end), 1 in GIS/GEO and 1 in drone-systems.

•

• Management: Delivered on the demonstrations to (series A) investors and ongoing stakeholder deliberations. Fortified the company position by visiting 3 conferences, implementing internal documentation, the setup of ISO standards, 2 subsidy applications, project initialisation, project planning, mentorship and recruitment of junior staff.

•

• Data science: Modelled 2 statistical reports in climate & fire hazards and automated GIS/GEO data processes.

•

• Legal: Drafted initial documentation of broadcasting licences, environmental and EASA legislation regarding drones.

This role revolved around research, software engineering and project management for various clients, and a few internal assignments. Minor achievements were in my first introduction to consultancy, and my cooperative tasks for TNO and Rijkswaterstaat. Larger achievements came from projects for:

• Leiden University, Biomedical department, for which the team made an approximate, optimised biochemical software model for multiple simulations in drug research in the human brain.

•

• Wageningen University & Research, Animal Studies department, for which the team optimised a gene statistics programme for the scientific analysis of cattle breeding stock.

•

• Shell Global, R&D department, for which I researched, re-documented and set up the (re-)implementation of four sets of spatial analysis filters in a larger, existing project. (Note: this had a security clearance requirement.)

In this role I handled often the irregular, but very much varied tasks for development, digital support, tooling and repairs in (semi-)governmental organisations. I also did some projects and presentations stemming from my expertise as a carer and volunteer worker. This role changed during the Covid lockdowns, which eventually meant the end of my temporary contract.

These were multiple roles during my studies and candidature period. Roles were larger in the dean’s office and Computechnion (computer building), and smaller roles were in the university greenhouses and chemistry laboratories:

• I advised in introducing new media and tools in video, handicap-friendly software and hardware.

•

• I improved some of the user friendliness of the IT infrastructure at the university.

• I did some advising and I wrote software for new tools and education.
