The Role

As a volunteer physician, you will work in a stimulating environment, treating conditions rarely seen in urban settings and leaving a lasting legacy by sharing your expertise with local staff eager for support.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct or indirect patient care in various departments of a public hospital and surrounding clinics.
• Offer postgraduate support to medical staff in training.
• Conduct skills development and formal teaching for local healthcare providers.
• Assist with administrative or management tasks, including clinical and quality improvement projects.
• Collaborate with local staff to develop health interventions and protocols.

Tshemba provides free, safe, and secure accommodation at the Volunteer Lodge located in Moditlo Private Game Reserve. This lodge serves as a relaxing retreat for healthcare providers after a demanding day, fostering idea exchange and collaboration among peers from around the globe, all while enjoying the breathtaking natural surroundings.

Length of Placement

Volunteer placements are flexible based on your expertise, with a minimum recommendation of 8 weeks for generalist volunteers. Shorter stays can be negotiated for specialists. We will work with you to determine the optimal placement and duration for maximum impact.

Requirements

• A current medical license in good standing from your regulatory body.
• Registration with ECFMG and the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA), with assistance provided by our team for the application process. Current ECFMG certification will expedite this.
• We welcome applications from all registered physicians, but there is a particular need for Cardiologists, Radiologists, Family Physicians, Geriatricians, Neurologists, Dermatologists, Internists, Psychiatrists, Pediatricians, Gastroenterologists, Ophthalmologists, and General Surgeons.
