As a Transportation Maintenance Technician I or II, you will perform routine transportation operations and maintenance support work, including roadway maintenance and repair, equipment operation, preventive maintenance, traffic control, and assisting the public during emergencies. This role requires interaction with private entities and adherence to standard practices with minimal supervision.
Transportation Maintenance Technician I:
- Assist in identifying, repairing, and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports, and posts, performing basic welding as needed.
- Provide support to local law enforcement at accident sites and assist stranded motorists.
- Control traffic by placing and gathering cones, warning signs, and barricades, and flagging traffic.
- Determine and install traffic control devices, inspecting barricades for compliance with standards.
- Maintain highways and rights-of-way, performing repairs, erecting guard rails, and hauling materials to job sites.
- Maintain picnic areas, rights-of-way, and comfort stations, including litter removal and landscape maintenance.
- Operate light equipment such as front-end loaders, street sweepers, and mowers.
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections, routine servicing, and minor repairs on equipment, completing necessary reports.
- Assist during emergencies, including floods and accidents, and help with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods.
