The Role

As a Senior Technician for Field Structured Cabling, you will oversee and manage structured cabling activities on-site, ensuring that installations adhere to approved designs, specifications, and project timelines. You will act as the primary field liaison among the design team, project managers, contractors, logistics, and vendors, translating design drawings into precise cabling installations while maintaining change control and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage structured cabling activities from project initiation to completion.
• Supervise and direct external contractors, aligning cable pull schedules with Project Managers and infrastructure teams.
• Ensure installations comply with approved DWG drawings, specifications, and cable routes.
• Track cable pulls, routes, and completion status; document progress and deviations.
• Update DWG files for minor layout changes; escalate significant design changes to the Structured Cabling Design team.
• Oversee the installation of cable trays and containment systems based on project priorities.
• Maintain accurate field documentation and update tracking spreadsheets or deployment systems.
• Ensure all field changes are captured for as-built documentation.
• Coordinate with logistics and vendors for timely delivery and staging of cabling materials.
• Serve as the on-site contact for structured cabling coordination and issue resolution.

Requirements

• 2–3+ years of relevant field experience in structured cabling or telecommunications.
• Proven hands-on experience with structured cabling deployment (fiber and copper).
• Strong knowledge of fiber-optic infrastructure, including fiber patch panels, enclosures, and management systems.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply AutoCAD / DWG drawings in the field.
• Experience supervising or coordinating contractors and field teams.
• Solid understanding of cable pathways, tray systems, and routing best practices.
• Experience with field documentation, cable tracking, and change control.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.

Nice to Have

• Participation in large-scale structured cabling projects, preferably in data center settings.
• Understanding of data center operational, safety, and access requirements.
• Basic knowledge of network topologies and their relation to structured cabling.
• Hands-on experience as part of a cable pulling team.
• Familiarity with structured cabling standards (TIA, ISO, BICSI).
• Knowledge of or exposure to fiber fusion splicing.
