About The Role

WPP Enterprise Solutions in Amsterdam serves as the central hub for SEO and GEO expertise across the WPP network. Our team collaborates with major organizations on complex challenges involving search, websites, digital platforms, and AI-driven discovery. We are currently expanding our team of ten SEO and GEO specialists and are seeking a Senior Technical SEO Specialist to enhance our technical capabilities.

This is not a traditional SEO role; we seek someone with a strong technical perspective on SEO. You should understand the interaction between websites, platforms, JavaScript frameworks, crawlers, rendering, APIs, and search engines, and be able to independently investigate and solve complex technical issues.

You will work closely with SEO specialists, developers, solution architects, product teams, and other technical stakeholders, diving deep into technology while translating complex findings into clear priorities and implementations for enterprise clients.

What You Will Do

As a Senior Technical SEO Specialist, you will ensure the technical quality and scalability of our SEO solutions, tackling complex websites and digital ecosystems where standard checklists fall short.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

Conducting advanced technical SEO audits for large and complex websites and platforms.
Analyzing crawling, indexing, and rendering to identify root causes of technical SEO issues.
Working with modern JavaScript frameworks and rendering architectures, including SSR, CSR, SSG, and hybrid rendering.
Analyzing HTML, JavaScript, HTTP requests, response headers, status codes, redirects, canonicalization, and robots directives.
Investigating and optimizing crawl architecture, internal linking, and information architecture for extensive URL structures.
Advising on complex technical challenges involving migrations, replatforming, URL structures, faceted navigation, pagination, internationalization, and hreflang.
Performing log file analysis to improve crawl efficiency by understanding crawler interactions.
Developing scripts, tooling, and automation for faster, more reliable analyses.
Reviewing technical solutions and specifications from an SEO perspective before deployment.
Collaborating with developers and engineering teams to translate SEO recommendations into clear technical requirements.

The Technical Expertise We Are Looking For

We seek someone whose technical capabilities extend beyond standard SEO tools.

You Have a Strong Understanding Of

HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with the ability to analyze source code and identify issues.
HTTP and web architecture, including requests, responses, status codes, caching, redirects, headers, and CDN behavior.
JavaScript SEO and the implications of client-side and server-side rendering.
Technical concepts such as SSR, CSR, SSG, hydration, and dynamic rendering.
Crawling and indexing, and how search engines process websites.
Crawling directives like txt, XML sitemaps, canonical tags, and meta robots.
Structured data and Schema.org.
Core Web Vitals and web performance.
International websites, hreflang, and multi-market architectures.
Website and platform migrations.
Crawl budget and scalable architectures.

While you don't need to be a software engineer in every area, you should be comfortable reading code, manipulating data, working with APIs, and building technical solutions when necessary.

Develop innovative solutions to complex SEO challenges, including algorithm changes and large-scale site architecture.
Build frameworks, templates, scripts, and automations applicable across multiple clients and projects.
Independently develop new approaches for challenges without standard solutions.
Consider how solutions can be implemented at scale, both technically and organizationally.
Mentor other SEO specialists to enhance their technical skills.
Act as a senior technical sparring partner for our clients.

What You'll Need

10+ years of experience in Technical SEO, with a proven track record in solving complex challenges for large-scale, international, or enterprise websites.
Based in the Netherlands, able to work from our WPP office in Amsterdam.
Deep technical knowledge of modern website architecture, including HTML, JavaScript, HTTP, and rendering technologies.
Strong experience with large and complex website architectures, including crawling, indexation, faceted navigation, internationalization, migrations, and internal linking.
Experience with Python and/or JavaScript for scripting and automation is highly desirable, along with SQL, BigQuery, or similar data environments.
Proven ability to turn complex technical findings into actionable recommendations for developers and stakeholders.
Experience developing scalable frameworks, tooling, templates, or automations across multiple clients.
An eager and proactive mindset, with a strong interest in AI, automation, and emerging search technologies.
Fluent in English; Dutch is a plus.

A gross annual salary range of €80,000 - €95,000, based on experience.
