Our team enhances the editorial processes for the world's largest scientific publisher, managing millions of manuscript submissions annually across thousands of journals and tens of thousands of editors. As submission volumes increase, we are modernizing editorial workflows to ensure scalability without compromising the integrity of scientific records. In this role, you will oversee editorial triage, the initial and most critical decision point in the publishing workflow, which faces increasing submission pressures. We seek a Senior Product Manager with strong product judgment to define the strategy, vision, and roadmap for editorial triage. This position emphasizes strategic thinking, executed through agile squad sprints.

Triage involves the early evaluation that determines whether a manuscript advances to peer review, is returned to the author, or is desk rejected. Many submissions are rejected before peer review, relying on a manual, fragmented process where editors gather signals from various tools lacking actionable guidance. A considerable amount of time is spent on information gathering rather than decision-making.

Your mission is to transition triage from a manual, fragmented process to an AI-assisted editorial intelligence layer that enhances human editorial judgment. This involves providing clear, prioritized, and interpretable signals at the triage stage while ensuring editors retain decision-making authority. You will chart the course from the current workflow to this new layer, collaborating closely with an embedded data science team to commission and analyze signal evaluations, and partnering with teams responsible for analytics, integrity, and the broader Editor Workflows pipeline.

We are looking for a Product Manager who remains engaged with technology and can understand AI behavior, evaluation methods, and trade-offs. Genuine curiosity is essential; the ideal candidate keeps abreast of emerging techniques, independently tests them, and contributes informed opinions to team decisions.

Rolverantwoordelijkheden:

Own, define, and deliver the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for editorial triage solutions.
Lead product delivery within a cross-functional agile team, managing priorities, maintaining a healthy backlog, and ensuring consistent progress.
Conduct customer discovery with editorial users, identifying needs across different user groups, and translating insights into product enhancements.
Design and refine signal management and triage experiences, helping users prioritize and act on information effectively.
Promote evidence-based decision-making through quantitative and qualitative research, analytics, experimentation, and clearly defined success metrics.
Collaborate with data science teams to assess signal quality, accuracy, and confidence, translating findings into product improvements.
Align product outcomes with business goals through KPIs, OKRs, success metrics, ROI analysis, and strategic decision-making.
Work with engineering and technical teams to evaluate architectural and technical trade-offs.
Develop products that promote transparency, accountability, and responsible decision-making, including human oversight and auditability.
Engage with stakeholders across Publishing, Technology, Operations, Editorial Strategy, and Research Integrity to align priorities and communicate impact.
Support go-to-market planning, product launches, customer adoption, and change management activities.

Vaardigheden & Vereisten:

Significant product management experience, including ownership of product strategy, delivery, and roadmap planning. Experience with Spec-Driven Development (SDD) is a plus.
Strong product thinking with the ability to define problems, assess trade-offs, and focus on meaningful user outcomes.
Proven experience with AI and machine learning products, including generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or agent-based workflows.
Strong analytical skills, with experience interpreting data, conducting experiments, and making decisions in complex environments.
Experience leading product initiatives within cross-functional teams and achieving results in dynamic settings.
Experience collaborating with data scientists and leveraging insights from models, experiments, and evaluations to inform product decisions.
Understanding of technical concepts and architectural trade-offs, with the ability to work effectively with engineering teams. Experience prototyping with AI tools is beneficial but not essential.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to adapt your approach for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Commercial awareness and an understanding of how product decisions impact business outcomes.
Familiarity with scholarly publishing, editorial workflows, peer review, or research integrity is advantageous but not required.
