MSD Animal Health develops and produces vaccines and pharmaceutical specialties for livestock, companion animals, and fish, with a presence in over 50 countries and products sold in more than 150 markets. The Global Engineering Solutions (GES) division, consisting of over 300 employees, manages investment capital and executes capital projects globally. The Technology Center in Boxmeer, Netherlands, houses approximately 20-25 employees.

The Role

In this role, you will report to the Engineering Director at the Technology Center AH Boxmeer. You will be responsible for the engineering design, installation, and qualification of complex manufacturing equipment, specifically for Project BOND in the formulation area. The equipment includes Beta Lactam formulation vessels, complex API powder handling isolators, downflow booths, and auxiliary equipment. Some design elements are under construction, with remaining challenges in details and automation integration. You will also oversee installation, commissioning, and qualification.

As part of a matrix organization, you will collaborate with engineers from various disciplines, including automation, process, mechanical, HVAC, civil, and commissioning & qualification. You will engage with end-users and Delivery colleagues, such as project managers and cost controllers, to ensure project success.

Building relationships with external partners is crucial for achieving cost-effective designs that meet our quality and safety standards. You will adopt an end-to-end approach, encompassing front-end loading, execution, commissioning & qualification, handover, and post-handover activities.

Responsibilities

• Lead design efforts for complex manufacturing equipment and facilities.
• Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for equipment in the Beta Lactam Formulation Area.
• Foster collaborations with GES, DMMD, and end-user SMEs.
• Develop relationships with design and construction partners across Europe.
• Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) at vendor locations.
• Oversee installation, commissioning, and qualification as the technical owner of the BL formulation area.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or master's degree in (Bio)Pharmaceutical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Food Technology is required.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Food, or High-Tech industries as a design engineer in capital projects. Experience with hygienic design, powder handling, and Beta Lactam is preferred.
• Familiarity with EudraLex Volume 4 GMP guidelines, EU GMP Annex 1, EHEDG, and ISPE guidelines.
• High-level insight into construction processes of pharmaceutical or food facilities and equipment integration.
• Excellent English language skills; knowledge of Dutch is preferred but not mandatory.
• Willingness to travel for project assignments to vendor sites.
• Ability to work on-site in Boxmeer at least three days a week, with full-time presence required in later phases.
