Personal Data Protection is a vital aspect of compliance at ING. As a key member of the Data Protection (DP) team within Compliance, you will help lead and develop strategies for managing compliance risks related to personal data processing in The Netherlands. The DP team acts as the local authority on compliance data protection risk management, ensuring that solutions for personal data protection, data privacy, and data retention meet all compliance requirements. Your role will involve improving data protection risk management processes across the compliance risk cycle through a multi-disciplinary approach. You will bring solid legal experience in data protection and be eager to expand your knowledge in this area.

De Rol

In this position, you will help establish standards for data protection and contribute to the development, innovation, and safeguarding of knowledge in data protection and retention risk management. You will also assist in defining the DP risk appetite and related management processes, while proactively monitoring and challenging DP processes and practices in first-line activities. You will work independently on projects and collaborate with a team of approximately 8 FTE, closely interacting with the Data Protection Officer (DPO) and various internal stakeholders, including first-line colleagues across all tribes, legal teams, and other risk functions in The Netherlands, as well as Data Protection teams in other countries.

• Enhance and mature DP risk management by embedding data protection in the compliance risk management cycle with appropriate governance and reporting.
• Provide integrated data protection advice on strategic business initiatives.
• Advise on data protection assessments and ensure follow-up on identified risks.
• Monitor and report on compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies, as well as the effectiveness of controls.
• Conduct horizon scanning to identify new legal developments impacting data protection.
• Design awareness and training activities in collaboration with the DPE office NL and offer training sessions for ING expert groups.
• Contribute to the design of effective approaches and guidance by the first-line Privacy Office.
• Ensure effective follow-up in case of significant data breaches, including root cause analyses and lessons learned.

Vereisten

• Law degree in a relevant area.
• 5+ years of experience in GDPR assessments related to business initiatives.
• 3+ years of experience in the financial sector.
• Fluent in English and Dutch.
• Good knowledge of Compliance/NFR controls, monitoring, and reporting.
• Specialized knowledge in data protection (legal and/or technical).
• Strong organizational and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills.
• Ability to quickly learn new content and acquire networks.
• Pragmatic, thorough, and results-driven approach.
• Strong focus on data and facts, with a capacity for analytical thinking.
• Willingness to seek help and feedback, and to provide constructive feedback.
