Alibaba Cloud is in search of a Senior Data Center Design Engineer to enhance data center projects across the European region. In this pivotal role, you will act as a key technical expert responsible for engineering design reviews, project technical management, commissioning, acceptance, and operational engineering support throughout the full lifecycle of facilities.

Responsibilities:

Conduct technical assessments of colocation opportunities and review site-related engineering documentation.
Evaluate proposed facility designs, equipment submittals, and technical solutions against Alibaba Cloud engineering standards.
Develop site-specific design and fit-out solutions based on Alibaba Cloud’s technical and operational requirements.
Collaborate with internal teams to integrate cross-functional technical requirements into project planning and design.
Provide engineering input for lease agreements and service level discussions as needed.
Represent engineering in regional project meetings and coordinate technical topics among stakeholders.
Review and enhance commissioning procedures to ensure compliance with Alibaba Cloud standards.
Witness testing and commissioning activities, following up on critical issues identified during the process.
Perform technical acceptance of colocation sites based on Alibaba Cloud’s criteria and assist with handover to operations teams.
Maintain regional colocation site engineering documentation, including design and as-built drawings.
Support operations teams with post-incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
Lead or support upgrade and optimization projects for existing colocation facilities to enhance operational efficiency.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
At least 3 years of experience in the design, construction, commissioning, or operation of data center or colocation infrastructure.
Strong understanding of critical data center systems, including electrical distribution, mechanical/cooling systems, fire protection, and related MEP infrastructure.
Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across internal teams and external vendors.
Familiarity with European building codes, engineering standards, permitting requirements, and local compliance processes.
Registered or chartered professional qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering is a plus.
Willingness to travel regionally up to 30%.
Fluent in English; additional European language skills and/or Chinese/Mandarin are advantageous.
