About the Company

Airwallex is committed to building a world-class compliance organization capable of managing complex financial crime risks as we scale into new markets. The Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) team operates under a Three Lines of Defense model, owning the global AML/CTF program and governance infrastructure across all entities.

The Role

As the Senior Compliance Manager & MLRO, you will lead the FCC function for Airwallex Netherlands, responsible for designing and implementing the AML/CTF program in compliance with the Wwft and EU AML Directives. You will liaise with Dutch regulators and law enforcement, ensuring effective controls against financial crime while enabling growth.

Responsibilities

• Act as the designated Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) for the Netherlands, liaising with DNB, FIU-Nederland, and other authorities.
• Design and maintain the local AML/CTF/Sanctions compliance framework, ensuring alignment with Dutch and EU standards.
• Oversee the identification, review, and submission of Unusual Transaction Reports (UTRs) to FIU-Nederland.
• Provide guidance on onboarding complex high-risk clients and launching new products in the Dutch market.
• Lead the local FCC governance structure, reporting critical management information to the Airwallex Netherlands Board.
• Manage responses to DNB inspections, internal audits, and independent AML reviews, driving necessary remediation initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Law, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• Minimum eight years of experience in financial crime compliance, with at least two years in a senior leadership role.
• Expert knowledge of Dutch AML/CTF legislation and familiarity with DNB supervisory expectations.
• Proven track record in managing investigation workflows and making determinations on UTR filings.
• Professional proficiency in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.

Nice to Have

• Experience in payments, fintech, or eCommerce.
• Professional certification in compliance or financial crime (e.g., CAMS, ICA Diploma).
• Familiarity with EU sanctions frameworks and the Dutch payment institution licensing regime.
