The Road Features Group, part of ADAS & ADS at TomTom, is at the forefront of creating highly accurate HD maps for lane-level navigation in Autonomous Vehicles. We utilize crowd-sourced vehicle traces and sensor observations to develop digital twins of road networks with unprecedented speed and accuracy. The Road Surface Graph (RSG) & Lanes team plays a crucial role in this endeavor, working to extract drivable surfaces and lane centerlines on a continental scale. We are seeking a Software Engineer with extensive experience in graph optimization, linear programming, and trace-based mapping (SLAM-style estimation) to transform large volumes of crowd-sourced vehicle trace data into a detailed lane-level road graph.

In this role, you will design algorithms that align, filter, cluster, and fuse millions of noisy GPS and sensor traces, constructing and optimizing the resulting lane graph. You will combine traditional deterministic methods with modern AI/ML approaches to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of our mapping technology.

• Design and implement scalable algorithms for aligning, filtering, and aggregating crowd-sourced vehicle traces into consistent geometric evidence.
• Build and optimize the lane graph by formulating lane-centerline extraction and connectivity as optimization problems and solving them at production scale.
• Integrate deterministic and learned methods, using LP/ILP and dynamic programming where guarantees matter, and modern ML techniques where they outperform traditional methods.
• Architect high-performance implementations of algorithms for robust and scalable production deployment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate models into production map-making pipelines, incorporating feedback for algorithm improvement.
• Stay updated on advancements in trace-based mapping, crowd-sourced map inference, SLAM, and geospatial deep learning.
• Deploy solutions using Docker containers on cloud platforms like Azure.

Vereisten

• Master's degree in computer science, robotics, applied mathematics, engineering, or a related field.
• At least 3-4 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer.
• Strong software engineering skills, particularly in Python; C++ experience is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with optimization-based estimation and processing large-scale vehicle trace data.
• Knowledge of SLAM and mapping techniques applied to real sensor data.
• Familiarity with modern ML applied to geometric or graph problems.
• Experience with cloud computing platforms and proficient in deploying applications using Docker.
