The Role

As a Researcher at AkzoNobel, you will play a vital role in advancing the next generation of coating technologies. Your work will involve contributing to multidisciplinary research projects, designing and performing laboratory experiments, and translating scientific findings into practical business solutions.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to research projects by translating objectives into experimental plans and executing laboratory work.
• Design, conduct, and evaluate chemical and physical experiments, including sample preparation and analytical testing.
• Analyze experimental data and present conclusions through technical reports and presentations.
• Provide scientific expertise in materials science to support research across the Innovation Group.
• Identify new research opportunities through scientific literature and emerging technologies.
• Collaborate closely with scientists, technicians, and project teams across multiple R&D disciplines.
• Coordinate laboratory activities to ensure high-quality execution and timely project delivery.
• Provide guidance and technical support to chemists and laboratory technicians as needed.
• Share knowledge and effectively communicate research outcomes with colleagues in the global R&D organization.
• Adhere to safety protocols while complying with laboratory procedures and health, safety, and environmental standards.

Requirements

• PhD in Material Science, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
• Knowledge of coatings, paints, or related materials is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a scientific mindset.
• Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, engaging stakeholders at various levels.
• Experience or interest in coaching and supporting colleagues.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken; Dutch language skills or willingness to learn are advantageous.
• Proactive, curious, and innovative attitude with a passion for developing new technologies.
• Strong commitment to quality, laboratory excellence, and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) standards.
