The Role

As a Research Engineer, you will research, prototype, and validate the algorithms behind our ophthalmic imaging and surgical guidance products. You will take questions from idea to evidence: designing experiments, collecting data hands-on in the lab, analyzing it, and reporting conclusions that withstand formal review. Your Python prototypes will be integrated into the product as-is, verified and validated.

Responsibilities

• Research, prototype, and enhance image processing and computer vision algorithms in Python
• Design and conduct experiments: define data needs, acceptance criteria, and test setups
• Analyze accuracy, precision, and repeatability of device measurements and algorithm outputs
• Author test protocols and reports that comply with formal QA/RA review
• Translate product ideas into research specifications and functional prototypes

Requirements

• MSc in a relevant field plus 3 years of post-graduation professional experience, or a PhD (recent graduates welcome; degree must be conferred at start date)
• Strong Python skills: NumPy, SciPy, OpenCV; ability to write testable, maintainable code
• Extensive experience in image processing/computer vision
• Proficient in statistics for measurement systems: accuracy, precision, error analysis
• Efficient and responsible use of AI tools in research and coding: using them to enhance productivity while verifying output
• Clear technical writing skills; fluent in English
• Comfortable with hands-on lab work and occasional travel (EU/US)
• Experience with medical device V&V, ophthalmic imaging, optics, deep learning, or clinical data is a plus.
