Vacaturesamenvatting
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with a recent PhD or nearing completion to explore public opinion on immigrant integration norms. Join our project funded by the Dutch Research Council to investigate societal expectations regarding immigrants in the Netherlands.
In this postdoctoral role, you will engage in a six-month research project titled 'The Normative Integration Regime: How Differential Expectations Shape Immigrant Societies', led by Dr. Philipp Lutz and funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO).
The project aims to uncover the unwritten expectations societies hold regarding immigrant behavior, which are often overlooked in formal immigration policies. By surveying 2,500 Dutch residents, we will investigate social norms towards immigrants compared to native citizens, focusing on whether people expect more from immigrants and if they perceive society as stricter than it is. This research will provide insights into how these informal expectations influence integration debates and policy preferences.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will contribute to the development of the study design alongside the principal investigator, including conducting literature reviews and designing surveys. You will also have the opportunity to pursue your own research ideas within the project's framework.
In return for your contributions, we offer a salary in scale 10, ranging from €3,546 to €4,412 gross per month for full-time employment (0.8 FTE). Your contract will be for a fixed duration of 6 months, with flexibility regarding the start date.
We also provide attractive benefits, including:
You will be part of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, which hosts numerous multidisciplinary research projects. The faculty aims to enhance understanding of social communities through collaboration across disciplines, fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment.
Are you interested in this position? We encourage you to apply by submitting your academic CV, a motivation letter, and a writing sample. The first round of interviews is scheduled for July 2026, with a potential start date in September 2026 or later by mutual agreement. Please note that applications via email will not be considered.
