We are looking for a dedicated postdoctoral researcher passionate about aiding rural communities in adapting to climate change while preserving biodiversity. This role involves transdisciplinary research on nature-based solutions and their potential for creating equitable and sustainable regions. You will engage with digital technologies to connect diverse stakeholders effectively.

The Role

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will develop, apply, and evaluate new co-creation methodologies that incorporate multi-species approaches, utilizing digital tools like VR/XR. Your work will be part of the NURISH project funded by the European Union, which focuses on co-creation, digital innovation, and nature-based solutions. You will investigate how these processes can engage with nature's values and enhance rural communities' relationships with nature. Your research will contribute to actionable knowledge for inclusive governance of nature-based solutions through real-life case studies in Greece, Cyprus, Finland, and the United Kingdom.

Alongside your research responsibilities, you will contribute to the European project for one day per week. You may also supervise master's students writing their theses on urban nature-based solutions and prepare a few lectures on governance and planning of nature-based solutions for the Department's Bachelor and Master programs.

Requirements

• A PhD in Urban Planning and Governance, Urban Ecology, Human Geography, Political Science, or related fields (to be awarded by October 1, 2026, at the latest).
• Proven research skills, especially in qualitative data collection and analysis.
• Experience publishing as a lead author in high-quality international peer-reviewed journals, with at least three published papers.
• Proficiency in conducting structured and semi-structured interviews and facilitating workshops.
• Strong communication skills and experience presenting research findings internationally.
• Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary projects.

Nice to Have

• Experience in organizing expert focus groups and stakeholder workshops.
• Knowledge of European environmental policies.
• Experience in organizing international research seminars and events.
• Willingness to learn new methodologies and theories.

What We Offer

• A temporary position (0.8 FTE), initially for one year, extendable to September 30, 2029, upon successful assessment.
• A working week of 32 hours with a gross monthly salary between €3,706 and €4,599 for full-time employment (salary scale 10.0 - 10.5).
• 8% holiday pay and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
