Vacancy Summary
Join TU Delft as a postdoctoral researcher to advance theoretical methods in quantum sensing using mechanical systems. Contribute to groundbreaking research in fundamental physics and develop your academic career in a collaborative environment.
As a postdoctoral researcher at TU Delft, you will lead research on quantum dynamics of mechanical systems and their interactions with complex environments. You will develop new theoretical frameworks for quantum control, noise mitigation, and quantum sensing, aiming to bridge realistic experiments with fundamental physics questions. Your work will define the capabilities of laboratory-scale quantum experiments regarding sensing, decoherence, and the quantum-to-classical transition.
TU Delft has been training engineers for over 180 years, focusing on impactful solutions in areas such as energy, climate, and AI. The university emphasizes collaboration and innovation to address modern challenges.
You will be part of the newly established theory group led by Assistant Professor Julen Simón Pedernales, focusing on mechanical quantum systems for quantum sensing and fundamental physics tests. You will contribute original ideas, identify promising research directions, and help build a collaborative research environment.
Knowledge in the following areas is advantageous:
The contract duration is 2 years with the possibility of extension, working 38 hours per week. Salary and benefits align with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, including an excellent pension scheme, flexible working hours, and opportunities for professional development. TU Delft also offers support for relocation and settling in the Netherlands.
If you are interested, please apply by 15 September 2026 with a cover letter and detailed CV. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview and a presentation of their previous research. Applications should be addressed to Julen Simón Pedernales and submitted online; applications via email or post will not be accepted.
