About the Company

This postdoc position is based in the Animal Production Systems group at Wageningen University & Research, dedicated to analyzing and improving the sustainability of food systems through livestock management. The group aims to unravel the complexities of livestock systems while exploring trade-offs and synergies related to environmental impact, animal welfare, and economic viability.

The Role

You will be part of a team working on two significant research projects: ECOPESIA and DECISION, which focus on developing integral approaches and reward schemes for nature-inclusive dairy farming systems in the EU and the Netherlands. Your research will support the objectives of these projects and contribute to the teaching responsibilities of the Animal Production Systems chair group.

Responsibilities

• Develop an analytical framework for designing, assessing, and scaling reward schemes for biodiversity and ecosystem services.
• Map and critically assess relevant policy frameworks at global, EU, and Dutch levels, proposing recommendations to support reward scheme implementation.
• Create an integrated research agenda that aligns the objectives of both projects.
• Support project coordination and management activities.
• Contribute to scientific publications and policy-relevant outputs.
• Supervise MSc and BSc students and participate in teaching activities in various courses.

Requirements

• PhD in farming systems analysis, sustainability transitions, agricultural or environmental economics, or a related field.
• Experience in inter- and transdisciplinary research and mixed-method approaches.
• Expertise in sustainability and social-ecological systems, biodiversity-positive concepts, or reward scheme design.
• Knowledge of relevant policy frameworks such as the EU Biodiversity Strategy.
• Proven track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
• Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in Dutch is a plus.
