We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to focus on the governance of transitions towards more sustainable and regenerative farming systems. Governance instruments, such as certification schemes, private standards, and policy incentives, are crucial in shaping the future of livestock farming. The Role

You will enhance our team’s research on public and private governance instruments, sustainability indicators, and stakeholder perceptions. Your responsibilities include contributing to ongoing research on regenerative agriculture, facilitating stakeholder engagement, supporting project management, developing research proposals, and contributing to educational initiatives. About the Company

This postdoc position is based at the Animal Production Systems group at Wageningen University & Research. Our mission is to analyze and improve the sustainability of food systems, focusing on the complexities of livestock systems and exploring trade-offs and synergies related to environmental impact, animal welfare, and economic viability.

You will work under the guidance of Dr. Evelien de Olde, contributing to governance research within a polycentric food systems context, including sustainability certification, metrics, and the effects of sustainability transitions on livestock farming systems.

Requirements

• A completed PhD in a relevant interdisciplinary field (sustainability science, agricultural science, animal science, political science, environmental science, etc.)
• Curiosity about governance complexities in farming systems and experience in transdisciplinary collaboration with project partners, including farmers
• Familiarity with farming systems research, sustainability indicators, and governance theories
• Experience with qualitative and/or mixed-method research methods (interviews, focus groups, stakeholder engagement)
• Interest in developing research proposals and contributing to new projects
• Strong team player with excellent communication skills in Dutch and English (C1 level)
