This postdoctoral research position focuses on the integration of category theory with computer proof assistants and computer algebra systems. The aim is to leverage the strengths of both systems: proof assistants verify mathematical arguments, while computer algebra systems efficiently handle complex computations. The project will utilize CAP (Categories, Algorithms, Programming), a computational category theory software system implemented in GAP, to create a formalized connection between these two domains.

The Role

The postdoctoral researcher will design and develop a connection between a proof assistant—either Rocq, Lean, or Agda—and CAP. This involves conceptual and practical work, including making the categorical principles underlying CAP precise enough for formalization, selecting a formal treatment that reflects the constructive nature of CAP's algorithms, and implementing the results as open-source software. The researcher will also publish findings, present at conferences, and contribute to the open-source libraries of both projects. There is flexibility to shape the research direction according to personal interests and expertise.

About the Company

This position is based in the Programming Languages group at TU Delft's Department of Software Technology. The researcher will collaborate with Benedikt Ahrens and Mohamed Barakat at Universität Siegen, fostering connections between the communities focused on formalization, univalent foundations, computational category theory, and the homalg/CAP ecosystem. Additionally, the role includes supervising BSc and MSc students on related projects and potentially some teaching responsibilities.
