Join the PATH2ZERO project at TU Delft to validate a digital twin aimed at evaluating emission reduction strategies for inland shipping. Leverage real-world data and agent-based modeling to contribute to the transition towards zero-emission waterways.

The postdoctoral research position is part of the NWO project “PAving THe way towards Zero-Emission and RObust inland shipping (PATH2ZERO)”, which focuses on developing sustainable business models and action perspectives for the inland shipping chain, facilitating the transition to emission-free operations.

The Role

You will evaluate zero-emission strategies, the effectiveness of policies and technologies, and their impacts on the inland shipping system. A key goal is to develop a digital twin, a data-driven virtual representation of the inland waterway transport system, to assess the efficiency of proposed emissions reduction solutions.

Responsibilities

Develop and validate a digital twin using real-world vessel data and agent-based modeling.
Assess interventions from new technologies to policy measures across the inland shipping corridor.
Collaborate with project stakeholders and researchers to quantitatively assess emission reduction strategies.
Model three key regions: the Rotterdam – Basel corridor, the Rotterdam – Antwerp/Gent corridor, and the Port of Rotterdam region.

Requirements

PhD in Transportation, Logistics, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Maritime Engineering, or related field.
Essential experience in agent-based modeling.
Proficiency in big data analytics, Python, and eagerness to learn new skills.
Strong collaborative skills with scientific and industrial partners.
