Join our research team to explore the formation pathways of contrails through lab experiments. This role contributes to addressing the climate crisis by investigating non-CO2 emissions from aviation.
In light of the climate crisis, the aviation sector aims for a 'net-zero' goal to decarbonize. This includes technological advancements for low emissions and alternative fuels like sustainable aviation fuels and hydrogen. However, a significant portion of aviation's climate impact stems from non-CO2 emissions, particularly contrails, which remain uncertain. A key research gap involves understanding the contrail formation pathways influenced by various engine exhaust conditions, critical for developing effective mitigation strategies.
In this research role, you will design an experimental setup to investigate ice nucleation pathways associated with different emission characteristics from engine exhaust. The data collected will assist in validating microphysics models for the ice nucleation process, clarifying the various pathways for ice formation. Collaboration with researchers within and outside our group will be essential to enhance the research outcomes.
