We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to contribute to an expanding microbiome research project aimed at understanding the metabolic interactions between the microbiome and the immune system. This role emphasizes experimental validation of bacterial species and microbial communities' effects on anti-tumor immune responses, with a strong in vitro focus. Candidates with computational and in vivo experience are highly valued.

The Role

You will spearhead the development of in vitro model systems to assess the impact of microbiota-derived metabolites on anti-tumor immunity. Your findings will be translated into patient-derived organoids and mouse models to define optimal consortia compositions for enhancing immune responses. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of immunologists, microbiologists, and industry partners will be essential to translate your findings into practical applications.

Responsibilities

• Develop in vitro model systems to evaluate microbiota-derived metabolites' effects on anti-tumor immunity.
• Translate findings to patient-derived organoids and mouse models.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to translate research findings into potential applications.

Requirements

• PhD in biology, immunology, microbiology, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with in vitro assays relevant to immune function and anti-tumor immunity.
• Strong scientific curiosity about the microbiome's impact on immune responses and cancer therapy.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
• Prior experience in the microbiome and/or oncology field is advantageous.
• Experience with in vivo models and animal experimentation is a strong plus.

What We Offer

• A 2-year contract for 36 hours per week, with a flexible preferred start date.
• A gross monthly salary between €4.629 and €5.503, depending on experience.
• 144 holiday hours and 57 hours of Personal Life Budget for full-time employment.
• Annual holiday pay of 8.33% and a fixed end-of-year bonus of 8.33%.
