The Department of Earth Sciences at Utrecht University is seeking a motivated PhD candidate with an MSc in Earth Sciences, Civil or Hydraulic Engineering, or related fields. You will be part of the DEEP-FLUX project, investigating the transport of terrestrial organic carbon and microplastics through submarine canyons. Your work will involve conducting scaled-down laboratory experiments to uncover the physical mechanisms of mixing in turbidity currents and validating these findings with existing computer models. Training will be provided to support your professional development, with 20% of your time dedicated to courses and workshops.
Utrecht University's Faculty of Geosciences focuses on sustainable and innovative studies of the Earth, encompassing a diverse range of research areas including geology, geochemistry, and hydrogeology. The department hosts a vibrant community of over 50 scientists and 110 PhD students, equipped with world-class laboratories and high-performance computing facilities.
