Your research will focus on finding invariant measures that represent chaotic behaviors in transcendental dynamical systems, a question that remains open for entire functions in the complex plane.

About the Company

The Faculty of Science at the University of Amsterdam encompasses around 8,000 students and 1,800 staff members dedicated to education, research, and support services. The Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics (KdVI) provides a stimulating research environment with a focus on various mathematical domains, including Algebra, Geometry, and Mathematical Physics.

The Role

As a PhD student, you will work closely with Prof. Han Peters and engage with a vibrant research community, including experts in dynamical systems and ergodic theory. You will have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues, attend seminars, and present your findings at conferences. Teaching responsibilities will include one course per semester and supervising Bachelor and Master students.

What We Offer

• A temporary contract for 38 hours per week for 4 years, starting with an initial 18-month period.
• A gross monthly salary ranging from €3,204 to €4,051, excluding holiday and year-end bonuses.

Requirements

• MSc in Mathematics or a comparable field.
• Strong motivation for mathematical research and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Professional command of English; willingness to learn Dutch is a plus.
• Programming experience or familiarity with scientific software is advantageous.
