Progress

Optical metrology is essential in semiconductor manufacturing, enabling high-precision, non-contact measurement of nanoscale features on chips to meet critical tolerances. As transistor geometries shrink, the performance of optical metrology tools faces increasing challenges due to stricter requirements and complex geometries. In this project, you will engage in the ideation, modeling, and experimental validation of novel techniques to address these challenges. You will be part of a research group with extensive expertise in coherent optical scatterometry, a method for measuring nanostructure shapes by analyzing coherently scattered light. Your work will focus on achieving full control over the amplitude and phase of the input probe, deriving additional constraints from first principles, and improving technique performance, particularly through integration with modern machine learning models. The ultimate goal is to retrieve shapes, overlay errors, and other geometrical parameters using various optimization methods and neural networks developed by project partners.
