Your job involves exploring whether the economic potential of biodiversity can be harnessed without harming the environment. You will investigate how to develop markets for native plant species that support rural communities and conserve biodiversity. The Cerrado, a biodiversity hotspot, faces threats from agricultural expansion and global market pressures, creating conflicts between conservation, economic development, and local livelihoods. Native species like macaúba, buriti, and pequi play crucial ecological roles and offer food and income opportunities to local communities.

About the Company

You will be based at the Forest and Nature Conservation Policy Group (FNP) at Wageningen University, which focuses on the political, socio-economic, and cultural dimensions of forests and nature. The FNP addresses major challenges such as biodiversity conservation, deforestation, and climate change.
