SCM, a scientific software company based in Amsterdam, is seeking a PhD student for a Marie Curie fellowship focused on vibrational chiral response on chiral surfaces. The successful candidate will research and develop simulation methods for vibrational spectroscopies of chiral molecules on surfaces, enhancing computational efficiency and allowing for the treatment of larger systems.

About the Company

SCM is an independent spin-off from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, dedicated to developing and marketing the Amsterdam Modeling Suite. Our software is utilized by computational chemists, physicists, and materials scientists across academia and industry.

The Role

As a PhD student, you will:

• Develop methods for calculating IR and VCD for chiral molecules on surfaces.
• Focus calculations on the most relevant parts of the spectrum to improve efficiency.
• Collaborate with characterization teams to compute nanocluster structural and spectroscopic properties.
• Work with both laboratory and industrial partners to provide computational tools for their research.

Requirements

• MSc degree in chemistry, physics, or a related field.
• Interest in theoretical chemistry/physics, quantum chemistry, or molecular physics.
