In the role of Legal Advisor International Law (0.8 - 1 FTE), you will be at the forefront of international business dynamics, providing essential legal support to entrepreneurs. The world of international trade is ever-changing, with rapid geopolitical developments, shifting trade tariffs, and new European legislation on digitization and sustainability posing significant challenges for our members. Your legal expertise will be crucial in helping them navigate these issues.

The Role

You will leverage your knowledge of national and European developments related to international trade, customs, ICC Incoterms®, trade compliance, IMVO, and digitization to provide entrepreneurs with actionable legal advice. Your responsibilities include answering queries regarding trade contracts, general terms and conditions, sanction legislation, competition law, intellectual property, and product liability. You will efficiently utilize AI to assist with supportive tasks, allowing you more time for legal analysis, interpretation, and advice.

In this diverse role, no two days will be the same. You will review contracts and terms one day, and advise members on international trade issues the next. You will closely monitor developments related to trade agreements, CSRD, CSDDD, ESG guidelines, CBAM, and digitalization legislation, translating this knowledge into practical insights for entrepreneurs. You will also write accessible articles for our website, newsletters, and magazines, and support our member advisors with your expertise. Collaboration with colleagues and external specialists is key, as is maintaining a strong network of lawyers and legal professionals.

You will play a vital role in sharing knowledge with our members and advocating for their interests. You will inform entrepreneurs and our policy staff about relevant legal developments and contribute to discussions surrounding new EU legislation, trade agreements, and sanction laws. A full-time position of 37.5 hours (1 FTE) or a part-time position of 30 hours (0.8 FTE);

Requirements

A completed university degree in Dutch law;
Demonstrable knowledge of international legal issues;
At least three years of experience in a legal role, preferably in an international trade environment, at an export-oriented company, or within a trade or business organization;
Strong analytical skills, ability to work independently, and excellent communication skills;
A connector who understands the needs of internationally operating companies, capable of translating complex questions clearly and easily liaising with specialized external lawyers when necessary.
