Referment is collaborating with a European non-profit organization to recruit a Lawyer for its legal team, focusing on supporting communities and organizations in their pursuit of strategic litigation and broader social change. This position involves a high level of collaboration and combines strategic litigation with legal research, community engagement, and training.

The Role

Responsibilities:

• Develop and support strategic litigation projects in partnership with community stakeholders.
• Conduct legal research and draft legal documents, submissions, and supporting materials.
• Collaborate with external counsel and legal specialists as necessary.
• Manage litigation projects from initial strategy development to filing and implementation.
• Assist communities in understanding legal processes and potential litigation strategies.
• Design and deliver workshops and training sessions on strategic litigation.
• Create accessible legal resources and educational materials.
• Build relationships with lawyers, researchers, pro bono partners, and other legal professionals.
• Maintain effective case management, documentation, and knowledge-sharing processes.
• Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing within the broader legal community.
• Work closely with colleagues and community partners across Europe.
• Travel internationally as required to meet with communities and partners.

Requirements:

We are seeking a qualified lawyer with experience practicing in Europe and a genuine interest in leveraging the law to support communities and achieve systemic change. Ideal candidates will have:

• Experience practicing law within the Council of Europe region.
• Previous involvement in strategic litigation.
• Strong legal research and drafting skills.
• Experience working directly with communities or organizations impacted by social or economic inequality.
• Ability to manage litigation projects and meet competing deadlines.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Capability to explain complex legal issues to non-legal audiences clearly.
• Experience in designing or delivering workshops, training, or knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Additional European language skills would be particularly beneficial. Candidates should be comfortable working collaboratively with communities and external legal professionals, adopting a thoughtful and inclusive approach to the development and pursuit of legal strategies. Regular travel across Europe is a requirement for this role.
