About the Internship

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, we create workflow solutions tailored to customer needs. One such workflow is single particle analysis, which involves acquiring numerous images with a low electron dose and assembling them into a 3D model to extract the chemical structure of targeted particles. This process aids in understanding the structure of small particles, such as viruses, and assists in the development of drugs and vaccines.

One key application in this workflow is Smart EPU, which helps users acquire images under optimal conditions for 3D reconstruction. In this project, we aim to enhance the Smart EPU solution with a Generative AI Assistant to guide new users through complex microscopy procedures, allowing them to focus on biological challenges. The assistant will provide context-aware guidance, enabling novice users to perform tasks typically reserved for experienced users.

Project Goals

• Extend existing Gen AI on-prem LLMs to create chat agents for Life Science applications while ensuring secure guardrails and minimizing hallucinations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement innovative solutions successfully.
• Transition an existing proof of concept to the MSD R&D environment.
• Explore the current GenAI pipeline evaluation.
• Assess third-party large language models through synthetic data generation and feedback from application specialists.
• Identify strategies to reduce response hallucinations.
• Enhance Retrieval Response Times (e.g., by profiling Docgraph to improve dilation performance).
• Improve Inference Response Times.
• Evaluate existing implementations for Guardrails.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Master's degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to solve complex problems.
• Experience with Gen AI technologies and on-prem LLMs is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
• Ambitious attitude with a passion for learning and innovation.
