The Role

As the Head of Credit Risk, you will have significant exposure to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and will work closely with teams in Product, Machine Learning & Data Science, Operations, and Engineering. You will be responsible for building the risk foundations from the ground up, influencing the future of SME lending in Europe.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of an end-to-end credit risk framework for all credit products, including eligibility, underwriting, scoring models, limit setting, risk appetite, monitoring, and reporting.
• Collaborate with external vendors to enhance credit risk detection capabilities.
• Develop methodologies and work with Machine Learning Engineers to continuously improve Finom’s Credit Risk Engine, ensuring it is recognized as best in class.
• Partner with Heads of Product and Engineering to integrate risk considerations into product design and strategy from the outset.
• Architect the data strategy, including decisioning tools, transactional data, and various data sources to guide the ML & Data Science team in building and validating credit scoring models.
• Build and manage the portfolio monitoring stack and design early warning indicators for credit monitoring.
• Act as a strong Second Line of Defence (2LoD) to ensure robust origination, monitoring, and collections processes.
• Continuously improve credit risk policies and ensure alignment with EMI / PS4 regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• 7-10+ years of experience in credit risk, particularly in SME lending and credit cards.
• Strong experience with automated underwriting and risk models in fintech or digital banking.
• STEM/quantitative degree in fields such as physics, data science, applied mathematics, or statistics is a plus.
• Solid understanding of risk governance and policies.
• AI-native mindset and comfort with leveraging AI tools.
• Strong ownership mindset and critical thinking abilities.
• Highly collaborative with the ability to align diverse stakeholders.
• Analytical and structured, able to balance detail with big-picture thinking.
