Side Routes offers unique small-group walking tours in Amsterdam for travelers seeking an authentic experience beyond the typical tourist spots. We are currently looking for freelance guides to lead our English-language tours.

The Role

As a walking tour guide, you will:

Lead English-language walking tours through Amsterdam’s neighborhoods.
Host groups of up to 15 guests, ensuring everyone can hear and engage.
Meet guests at the start point, set the tone, and keep the group together, on time, and comfortable.
Provide recommendations after the tour regarding dining, attractions, and transportation.
Share feedback with us on routes, stops, and overall experiences.

Requirements

Fluent and confident in English, with the ability to engage a group for a couple of hours.
Genuine knowledge of Amsterdam, including its history, neighborhoods, and current dynamics.
Registered as self-employed in the Netherlands (KvK number) or willing to register before your first tour.
Legally permitted to work in the Netherlands.
Reliable and punctual, as guests plan their day around your start time.
Comfortable being outdoors and on your feet in all weather conditions throughout the year.

Nice to Have

Previous experience in guiding, teaching, performing, or hospitality.
Background in history, art history, or urban studies.
Proficiency in additional languages as we expand beyond English.
Familiarity with the City of Amsterdam’s guided-tour regulations.

Payment per completed tour, invoiced monthly.

Please note that this is a freelance (ZZP) position, not employment. You will invoice us for the tours you lead and are responsible for your own taxes, insurance, and administrative tasks. Our tours comply with the City of Amsterdam's regulations for guided tours, which include a maximum of 15 participants, tours scheduled between 08:00 and 22:00, and restrictions on certain areas.
