The Role

We are seeking an experienced contractor to assist Reachdesk with various customs compliance projects across our global operations. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who can quickly assess risks, enhance processes, and collaborate with multiple stakeholders to strengthen our customs and cross-border trade compliance practices. You will work closely with teams from Operations, Logistics, Marketplace, Product, Legal, and Finance, as well as external brokers, carriers, and warehouse partners.

Responsibilities

  • Support customs compliance efforts related to import/export activities, documentation, product classification, valuation, country of origin, duties, and operational controls.
  • Review and enhance existing customs processes, documenting scalable compliance procedures.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external logistics providers to ensure compliant shipment flows and customs clearance.
  • Investigate and resolve customs issues, including holds, clearance delays, documentation gaps, or shipment exceptions.
  • Assist with compliance for restricted items and broader cross-border trade requirements.
  • Identify compliance risks within current and proposed operating models, recommending practical mitigations.
  • Work closely with various departments to integrate customs compliance into daily operations and project decisions.
  • Support projects related to new shipping lanes, markets, and operational changes.
  • Create and maintain internal documentation, including SOPs and audit-ready records.
  • Provide clear guidance on customs-related requirements and best practices.
  • Maintain and improve customs-related data, including product classifications and compliance records.
  • Assess tools or systems changes that could enhance customs compliance workflows.
  • Assist with audit preparation and general compliance project management as needed.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in customs compliance, global trade compliance, or related cross-border trade roles.
  • Strong knowledge of customs requirements, import/export controls, HS classification, and international shipment documentation.
  • Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and logistics partners.
  • Ability to work independently in a project-based environment with evolving priorities.
  • Proficient in identifying risks and balancing compliance with commercial realities.
  • Strong documentation and process-design skills.
  • Confident in cross-functional collaboration with legal, finance, and operations teams.
  • Experience in e-commerce, logistics, or high-volume cross-border environments is preferred.
  • Familiarity with VAT or indirect tax concepts is a plus, though the focus is on customs compliance.

  • A friendly and collaborative work culture filled with dedicated individuals.
