To enhance the scientific output from its space science missions, the European Space Agency (ESA) is accepting applications from scientists who wish to conduct research projects utilizing publicly available data from the ESA Space Science Archives (https://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/esdc). The ESA Archival Research Visitor Programme is open to scientists at all career stages affiliated with institutes in ESA Member States and Cooperating States. All visits must adhere to ESA security protocols, which may require additional checks. Early-career scientists and PhD students are especially encouraged to apply, and applications from women and minorities are welcomed. The peer-review evaluation process is anonymized to ensure equal opportunities for all candidates.

Visiting scientists will have access to archives and mission specialists during their stay, assisting with data retrieval, calibration, and analysis. Research projects can cover all areas of space research supported by ESA science missions.

Residency typically lasts between one and three months and may be spread over multiple visits. Research can be conducted at ESAC in Madrid, Spain, or at ESTEC in Noordwijk, Netherlands. ESA will cover travel costs to and from the home institution and provide support for lodging and meals.

Applications submitted by 31 October 2026, 23:59 UTC, will be considered for visits in spring and summer 2027.
