The Role

The Director of Translational Biomarker Strategy will be responsible for defining and implementing biomarker strategies across all research programs at uniQure. This pivotal role involves collaboration with Research Project Teams across various modalities and disease indications, as well as consultation with early clinical development teams to ensure the effective translation of biomarker strategies.

Responsibilities

• Develop a comprehensive scientific strategy and operational plan for biomarker development initiated in the preclinical stage to support pipeline projects.
• Oversee the design and development of biomarker methods suitable for (pre)clinical activities, working closely with early clinical development for future patient translation.
• Identify, manage, and oversee third-party outsourced activities (e.g., CRO), ensuring timely and budget-compliant completion.
• Establish collaborations with key opinion leaders to enhance biomarker development strategies and leverage external expertise.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Clinical Development and Manufacturing, as well as external partners like CROs and academic collaborators, to drive project advancement.
• Stay updated on scientific and technological innovations by evaluating emerging methodologies and introducing new approaches to strengthen translational and preclinical research.
• Write, review, and approve study plans, reports, patents, articles, and other documentation as needed.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Neurobiology or a related field with translational experience in CNS drug discovery.
• Minimum 5 years of industry experience in drug development with responsibilities in biomarker development, either preclinical or clinical.
• Extensive knowledge of antibody-based assays (e.g., ELISAs, MSD, SMC platforms) and analytical assays (mainly LC-MS) for biological matrices (CSF, blood, tissues) in both preclinical and clinical settings.
• Strong scientific acumen with the ability to lead experimental design and derive insights from complex datasets (e.g., Omics).
• Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven success in collaborating with cross-functional teams and external partners, including CROs and academic institutions.
• Familiarity with the regulatory approval process.
• Strong presentation skills for colleagues and senior management.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
