The Personal History Statement must be submitted to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office before interviews are conducted. Compensation ranges from $33.05 to $45.95 per hour. Deputy Sheriffs carry out various law enforcement duties, including patrolling assigned areas, transporting individuals to appropriate institutions, serving Court Orders, investigating law violations, apprehending offenders, gathering and preserving evidence, and appearing as court witnesses. They also manage property under Court Orders, conduct evictions, collect delinquent taxes, and oversee Sheriff's sales as required by law. Deputies investigate accidents, provide public assistance, and ensure security in court settings while supervising civilian employees when necessary. This role involves significant responsibility for protecting life and property, preventing and investigating crime, and maintaining law and order, often in potentially dangerous situations. Specific assignments are given by superior officers and must be executed according to the Sheriff's Office Standard Operating Procedures. Deputies are expected to exercise sound judgment independently during emergencies. Performance is evaluated through reports, inspections, and results.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D) is required.
• Experience: Candidates must have been employed as a sworn law enforcement officer for at least 100 hours per year and must maintain active law enforcement certification. Applicants from outside Nebraska must complete the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center (NLETC) Reciprocity Course within one calendar year of hiring. Military Police experience may also qualify if supported by documentation.
• Character: Candidates must possess good character and not have a history of law disregard that would impair their effectiveness as an employee. Any adverse information discovered during background checks will be discussed in the interview, and hiring decisions will align with Article V, Section G of the Merit Commission Rules.
• Physical Demands: Vision must be 20/20 uncorrected to 20/20 corrected, with normal depth perception and no ocular abnormalities, including color blindness. Any signs of ear disease will disqualify the applicant. Hearing must be sufficient to understand normal voice frequencies. A physical examination by a designated physician is required.
• Age: Candidates must be at least 21 years old at the time of certification from the NLETC.
• License: A valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License is required at the time of application, hiring, and throughout employment.
