Teams

Google is more than just a software company. The Hardware Operations team is responsible for overseeing the advanced physical infrastructure that powers Google's search technology. As a Data Center Technician II, you will install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware such as servers and their components, as well as server software like Google's Linux cluster. You will also handle the configuration of complex components including networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols. Your role may involve participating in or leading small project teams for larger installations and developing project contingency plans. A typical day includes the physical movement and installation of racks, which can be demanding, but you will thrive in working with cutting-edge computer technology. Our Technical Infrastructure team builds and maintains the architecture that supports everything users see online. From developing and maintaining data centers to constructing the next generation of Google platforms, we enable Google's product portfolio. We take pride in being the engineers for our engineers, often voiding warranties by disassembling and rebuilding equipment. Our goal is to keep networks operational, ensuring users have the best and fastest experience possible. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
  • Experience performing component-level repairs on IT equipment.
  • Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and maintain physical exertion over extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting.
  • Must be available to work non-standard hours, including weekends, holidays, and on a shift-based schedule.
