The Role

As a Controls Technician, you will perform maintenance and construction work as part of the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) supporting the National Science Foundation's United States Antarctic Program. Tasking will be based on ASC schedule requirements.

Responsibilities

Commission, diagnose, calibrate, maintain, and repair environmental-control systems using knowledge of electronics, DDC, airflow, hydronic systems, refrigeration theory, pH sensors, flow meters, and electrical meters.
Analyze, diagnose, maintain, and repair direct digital control system components.
Perform preventive maintenance, component replacement, and necessary corrections.
Adhere to the configuration control process and propose changes through the Configuration Change Request (CCR) process.
Collaborate with Controls Engineer, Power Plant Engineer, and Facility Engineers to ensure all control systems operate according to design specifications.
Respond to emergency service calls during and outside of normal working hours.
Document hours worked, tasks performed, materials used, and processes involved accurately.
Advise your immediate Supervisor on job progress and material/labor needs.
Utilize design drawings, specifications, and wiring diagrams to accomplish tasks.
Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and suggest revisions as necessary.
Work outdoors in challenging environmental conditions, including extreme cold and wind.
Identify unsafe conditions or hazards proactively and communicate them effectively.
Collaborate with other departments to plan and complete tasks.
Learn and utilize computer-based labor, material, and maintenance tracking applications.
May deploy to remote research support facilities for day trips or extended periods (McMurdo only).
Occasionally assist other station personnel or departments with their tasks.
Comply with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management, and Quality Assurance requirements.
Participate in community programs such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (station clean-up), and recycling efforts.
Perform other duties as required.
