As a Consultant Mechanical Engineer, you will apply your mechanical engineering expertise to diverse R&D environments, focusing on MRI systems and medical imaging technology. Your responsibilities will range from developing and integrating mechanical components to supporting larger system-level development initiatives. You will navigate the mechanical development lifecycle, transforming system requirements into practical solutions through concept development, detailed design, prototyping, testing, and integration. Your role will require you to quickly adapt to new technical environments, collaborate effectively with various teams, and independently manage your projects. Over time, you will engage with different clients, applying your MRI expertise to tackle a variety of engineering challenges.

Responsibilities

• Support various clients and R&D projects involving MRI systems and medical imaging technology.
• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for MRI equipment.
• Translate system and customer requirements into mechanical specifications and engineering solutions.
• Conduct mechanical concept development, calculations, analyses, and detailed designs.
• Create and review 3D CAD models, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Develop mechanical solutions suited for the demanding environment of MRI systems.
• Assist in the development of prototypes, test setups, and custom MRI equipment.
• Perform mechanical integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Investigate mechanical issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate across mechanical, electronics, RF, software, and systems engineering interfaces.
• Consider mechanical interactions with MRI-specific subsystems and the overall system architecture.
• Participate in design reviews and technical decision-making processes.
• Identify mechanical risks and contribute to mitigation strategies.
• Engage in verification and validation activities.
• Adapt quickly to different clients, projects, and technical environments.
• Take ownership of technical topics, defining necessary actions, stakeholders, and resources.
• Maintain technical specifications, design documentation, and test documentation.
• Support system integration, commissioning, and technical handover.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Professional experience with MRI systems or related technology is essential.
• Hands-on experience in mechanical engineering, development, integration, or testing of MRI equipment.
• Strong background in mechanical design and product development.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD and mechanical engineering principles.
• Experience with mechanical calculations, tolerancing, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Familiarity with developing, prototyping, and testing mechanical components and assemblies.
• Solid understanding of mechanical interfaces within complex systems.
• Experience in multidisciplinary R&D environments.
• Ability to quickly grasp unfamiliar systems and identify solutions to technical problems.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently, taking ownership of tasks without detailed guidance.
• Comfortable collaborating across various clients, teams, and projects in a consultancy setting.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Structured, pragmatic, and solution-oriented approach.
• Fluent in English; proficiency in Dutch is a plus.
