About the Company

Hivos has been awarded the THRIVE Program (Promoting an Enabling Environment for Civil Society) under the Swedish Strategy for Support to Civil Society 2025–2029. The program aims to strengthen civil society resilience, sustainability, and effectiveness across Kenya, Zimbabwe, Colombia, and Lebanon.

The Role

The Communications Officer for Project THRIVE will develop and lead the project’s communication strategy, ensuring clear, consistent, and impactful messaging across countries and partners. This role involves producing targeted content, enhancing THRIVE’s visibility and advocacy efforts, and supporting effective engagement, learning, and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement communication strategies and plans tailored to Project THRIVE.
• Strengthen THRIVE’s internal and external visibility and branding.
• Advise project staff on communication approaches, risks, and opportunities.
• Monitor the impact of external visibility on partner safety and adapt actions accordingly.
• Develop and implement THRIVE’s online communication strategy.
• Create and manage content for websites and social media.
• Produce communication materials that highlight THRIVE’s achievements.
• Monitor external developments relevant to Project THRIVE and integrate them into communication efforts.
• Represent THRIVE in policy and stakeholder arenas.
• Coordinate communication efforts for THRIVE-related events and public engagement.
• Build and maintain professional relationships with partners, donors, and media.
• Collaborate closely with THRIVE’s project team on communication activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a relevant discipline.
• Minimum of five years of experience in external communications in a non-profit environment.
• Proven track record of using online communications to amplify program visibility.
• Ability to translate complex concepts into engaging content for diverse audiences.
• High proficiency in English; proficiency in another widely spoken language is a strong asset.

What We Offer

We provide a stimulating work environment within a professional international organization. The work modality is hybrid, requiring a minimum of two days in the office. We offer an initial one-year contract, renewable based on performance and funding, with a salary commensurate with experience.
