The Climate Litigation Network (CLN) is a non-profit foundation dedicated to advancing climate action through litigation against high-emitting entities. Founded in 2015 by the Urgenda Foundation after its landmark case in the Netherlands, CLN collaborates with local partners and communities worldwide to develop legal strategies aimed at keeping global temperature rise below 1.5°C, grounded in the best available science and human rights protection. The Role

As a Climate Science Advisor, you will work at the intersection of climate science and law within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team. Reporting to the Science and Law Lead, your responsibilities will include conducting research and analysis, serving as an internal expert for CLN’s legal teams and their partners, and translating complex scientific concepts into actionable insights for legal contexts.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-depth research and analysis in climate science.
• Collaborate with senior staff to apply scientific knowledge to legal challenges, including translating legal standards into scientific frameworks.
• Identify evidentiary gaps in climate litigation.
• Communicate complex scientific concepts clearly to diverse audiences, including legal professionals and non-specialists.
• Produce clear, actionable written outputs based on scientific information.
• Utilize data analysis, modeling, and visualization tools, including R and/or Python.
• Work creatively with a broad range of experts to address novel legal challenges.
• Maintain a high level of motivation, reliability, and attention to detail while meeting deadlines.
• Align with CLN's values and contribute to a trust-based, inclusive organization.

Requirements

Essential:

• Deep knowledge of climate science.
• Excellent science communication skills.
• Strong research, analytical, and drafting skills.
• Proficiency in data analysis and visualization.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Desirable:

• Experience in climate policy or related interdisciplinary fields.
• Fluency in additional languages.

Qualifications and Professional Experience

Essential:

• Undergraduate degree in climate science, environmental science, geoscience, or related fields with a strong academic record.

Desirable:

• PhD or 3–6 years of post-university experience in climate change, climate policy, or related areas.

• Salary range of €50,000–€65,000, based on experience and qualifications.
