Choreographer / Show and Exercise Instructor at Pasveerkorpsen Leeuwarden

Pasveerkorpsen Leeuwarden is looking for reinforcement in choreography and show/exercise instruction. We are seeking a choreographer and/or show/exercise instructor to join us immediately for an interim period. The immediate focus for instruction is on returning to the basics of marching: posture, technique, timing, lines, discipline, and moving together as one unit. From this solid foundation, we aim to further develop innovative and distinctive productions. At the same time, we are looking for a sustainable approach to choreography and instruction for the long term. Candidates can apply for the interim period, for a permanent role starting in 2027, or for both. We are open to different forms of collaboration.

About Pasveer

Pasveer aims to impact and surprise audiences with distinctive shows, marches, parades, and other productions. We set high standards, seek innovation, and dare to think outside existing patterns, which is reflected in our musical choices, difficulty levels, and visual execution. Above all, we are a club where people feel at home, have fun together, and take pride in what they create. We want to perform together and enjoy our achievements.

The Role

Choreographer: As a choreographer, you will be the creative and artistic force behind our visual productions. You will immerse yourself in the corps, the people, the instruments, the level, the music, and the ambition. From this assessment, you will develop and write shows, marches, parades, and other custom productions in collaboration with our music instructors, where music and movement enhance each other.

We are looking for someone who:

Is creative, conceptually and artistically strong, and dares to think innovatively from the DNA of Pasveer.
Has sufficient musical knowledge to translate structure, phrasing, and tension arcs into movement, formations, and visual effects.
Knows how to combine ambition and difficulty with the instruments, level, and practical possibilities of the group.
Works intensively with the flute, lyra, and percussion instructors and is open to feedback and willing to develop further together.

Availability: You do not need to be present at every rehearsal, but we expect good availability for assessment, development, coordination, and evaluation, as well as visibility at relevant moments within the club. You will get to know the group, visit rehearsals as needed, and stay connected with the musical and visual development of the corps. Our regular music night is on Fridays from 19:30 to 22:00 in Leeuwarden.

Show/Exercise Instructor: As an instructor, you will bring the visual design to life with the members. You will master the written material and translate it onto the training floor. Quality starts with a strong foundation: posture, marching, exercise, footwork, timing, direction, lines, spacing, movement, and uniformity. From this foundation, you will work with the group towards a technically strong and convincing performance.

We are looking for someone who:

Is didactically strong and can clearly explain, demonstrate, and practice choreography, drill, marching, and movement.
Observes technically sharp and works systematically on correction, repetition, refinement, and cleaning the product.
Combines high expectations with enthusiasm, fun, and motivation, addressing members on their responsibilities.
Has an eye for both individual performance and the overall picture.
Is a reliable team player who collaborates closely with the choreographer and music instructors and demonstrates positive leadership.

Availability: For this role, presence at the scheduled Sunday training sessions in Leeuwarden is a crucial part of the position. Additionally, we expect you to regularly join the Friday evening rehearsals from 19:30 to 22:00 to remain musically connected and visible within the broader instructional team and the club.

Development & Collaboration

Together we perform. Together we take pride. A good show or march does not arise from each discipline doing their part as well as possible. Quality emerges where these disciplines strengthen each other. The choreographer is primarily responsible for the design, the show instructor for practicing and technical execution, and the music instruction works on musical quality. Responsibilities differ, but the end product is a collective effort. Therefore, we seek individuals who understand their own craft, are curious about others, can give and receive feedback, and take joint responsibility for the end result.

Both the choreographer and the instructor are expected to delve into the history, identity, and DNA of Pasveer. Our rich tradition of shows and marches serves as an important starting point, but we are not looking for a copy of the past; we seek individuals who understand where Pasveer comes from and want to build the future from that identity.

The role does not stop at Pasveerkorps. We want to work on a continuous learning line from PasveerKidz through Jong Pasveer to Pasveerkorps. Therefore, we find it important to coordinate with the instruction of PasveerKidz and Jong Pasveer, sharing knowledge, ideas, and inspiration across the entire club. This way, we not only build the quality of Pasveerkorps but also the development of our members and instruction in the long term.

Interim and Structural Collaboration

Until January 1, 2027, we will work with an interim solution. For this period, we are looking for a choreographer and/or instructor who can start working with us immediately. At the same time, the vacancy is open for structural filling starting in 2027. Those interested in both the interim period and a long-term role can combine them. During the interim period, we will focus on the basics of marching and exercise while gaining experience with a sustainable and future-proof approach to choreography and instruction. Starting in 2027, we will initially work with collaboration agreements for a duration of one year. Each year, we will evaluate the collaboration, development, role distribution, and ambitions, making agreements for the following year.

What We Offer

An ambitious club with a strong and recognizable tradition of shows and marches.
An environment where feedback, collaboration, and craftsmanship are important.
Room for substantive input and innovation within clear frameworks.
Collaboration with (music) instructors and stakeholders.
The opportunity to contribute to a sustainable and future-proof approach to choreography and show/march instruction.
An organization that takes instructors seriously and invests in long-term quality.
A suitable compensation, in consultation, commensurate with the role and commitment.

Interest and Procedure

Are you a choreographer, show instructor, or can you combine both disciplines at a high level? We would love to discuss this with you. Please send a brief motivation, details about your relevant experience, and examples of previous work to bestuur@pasveer.nl. For the Choreographer, we would like to have an in-depth discussion about vision, methodology, and previous productions. For the Instructor, we would like to meet in practice in addition to a conversation. One or more training sessions with the corps may therefore be part of the procedure.

Interim Period Participation

Would you like to work with Pasveer during the interim period? Please respond by Thursday, October 8, 2026. You can indicate whether you are interested in only the interim period, the structural filling from 2027, or both.

Structural Filling from January 1, 2027

After October 8, the vacancy will remain open until December 1 for the structural filling starting January 1, 2027. We will continue to engage with suitable candidates until we find a sustainable and appropriate filling for both disciplines.
