Lending, blending and advising
Lending: The vast majority of our financing is through loans, but we also offer guarantees, microfinance, equity investment, etc.
Blending: Our support helps us unlock financing from other sources, particularly from the EU budget. This is blended together to form the full financing package.
Advising: Lack of finance is often only one barrier to investment. We can help with administrative and project management capacity which facilitates investment implementation.
The Role
This role is located at our headquarters in Luxembourg and requires regular office attendance. The European Investment Bank (EIB) offers a unique opportunity to thrive in an international and multicultural environment, along with relocation support.
About the Company
The EIB, known as the bank of the European Union, is looking to hire a Banking and Finance Lawyer for its Legal Directorate, specifically within the Project Financing Transversal Centre of Expertise in Luxembourg.
The Role
As a Banking and Finance Lawyer, you will engage in high-impact project finance operations across various jurisdictions, particularly focusing on Germany and Austria. This full-time temporary position is set for a duration of one year, with no possibility for extension.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on the structuring of project financing operations in accordance with EIB policies.
- Manage contracts and negotiations related to project finance operations handled by the Division.
- Draft and negotiate legal documentation for lending operations on project finance transactions.
- Participate in the selection and supervision of the Bank’s external legal counsels.
- Guide Assistants and Paralegals in executing legal processes.
- Conduct legal research on project finance-related issues and keep updated on relevant legal developments.
- Maintain relationships within the Bank and represent the EIB externally.
Requirements
- University degree in law (minimum equivalent to a Bachelor).
- Post-graduate degree in law (LLM or equivalent) is a distinct advantage.
- Professional legal qualification, preferably in an EU Member State or in England and Wales, is desirable.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in banking and finance, especially in project finance, PPPs, or structured finance.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and full professional proficiency in German is required.
- Experience in drafting and negotiating legal documents in English and German is essential.
- Knowledge of other EU languages, particularly Italian, French, or Spanish, is advantageous.
