We are looking for a Background Investigator to carry out comprehensive background checks and investigations on candidates and employees. This role demands a blend of investigative thoroughness and discretion, resulting in detailed and accurate reports that support hiring decisions.

The Role

You will be responsible for conducting background investigations that encompass employment, education, criminal, and credit checks. Your duties will include interviewing references, verifying credentials with previous employers and institutions, searching public records, court databases, and credentialing registries, and documenting your findings in clear, thorough investigative reports. You will also need to ensure compliance with FCRA, state, and industry-specific regulations while managing a caseload of investigations within turnaround SLAs.

Responsibilities

• Perform in-depth background investigations covering employment, education, criminal, and credit histories.
• Interview references and validate credentials with past employers and educational institutions.
• Conduct searches of public records, court databases, and credentialing registries.
• Clearly document findings and prepare detailed investigative reports.
• Ensure compliance with FCRA, state laws, and industry regulations.
• Manage a caseload of investigations while adhering to turnaround service level agreements (SLAs).

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in background investigation, compliance, or investigative roles.
• Strong research skills and keen attention to detail.
• Familiarity with FCRA and adverse action processes.
• Excellent written communication skills and report writing capabilities.
• Proficiency with investigative tools, court records, and public databases.
• Ability to handle sensitive personal information with discretion.
