The Role

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to join the ElectroMechanical Workshop at the European Space Agency (ESA) in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. This role involves providing high-quality manufacturing and technical support to ESA engineering teams and laboratories, focusing on the machining, assembly, inspection, and handling of mechanical components for space engineering projects. Please note that this position requires full on-site support.

The Role

You will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include:

  • Performing precision machining using CNC and conventional equipment.
  • Supporting the prototyping and manufacturing of mechanical parts according to specifications.
  • Conducting mechanical assembly, fitting, and adjustments.
  • Executing inspection and dimensional verification with metrology equipment.
  • Collaborating with engineers to identify manufacturability issues.
  • Ensuring proper documentation and handling of components.
  • Operating within ESA and ATG safety and quality procedures.
  • Supporting the maintenance of workshop machines and contributing to process improvements.

Requirements

  • Technical Diploma (MBO/MTS or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or Machining.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in conventional and/or CNC machining.
  • Familiarity with CAM software is a plus.
  • Experience with 3D printing or additive manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Certified training for crane/hoist or forklift operation is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (GD&T).
  • Strong attention to detail and a hands-on approach.
  • Knowledge of measurement instruments and inspection techniques.
  • Understanding of workshop safety standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with space hardware manufacturing is a plus.
  • Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the EU.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
