The Role
As a cost expert, you will work within the Urban Development advisory group on challenging area development projects. Your responsibilities include preparing estimates at various design stages (Schematic Design, Preliminary Design, or Final Design) for urban and industrial infrastructure projects, primarily following the SSK methodology. These estimates are crucial for establishing budgets with clients or for budget-driven design. You will also serve as a resource for civil engineering designers preparing tender estimates. If you bring extensive civil engineering knowledge alongside your cost expertise, you may be included in various project teams to contribute as a designer.
The team focuses on projects from preparation to execution, ranging from small to large scale, covering all phases. Projects include designing public spaces, advising on infrastructure developments, technical consulting, environmental management & communication, contract advisory, and detailed designs. Integrated contract forms and relieving clients of burdens are becoming increasingly important. Our clients include municipalities, provinces, developers, contractors, educational and healthcare institutions, and industry.
Your advisory group, Urban Development, operates from offices in ’s-Hertogenbosch, Maastricht, Zwolle, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Goes. Depending on your location, you can join the team in ’s-Hertogenbosch, Amsterdam, or Rotterdam. The team consists of civil engineering designers, specialists, project leaders, and advisors. For each project, we assemble the best project team to meet client needs effectively. 'Improving quality of life' is our primary goal. Together, we strive for a sustainable future in urban development, utilizing the latest digital innovations and collaborating internationally with colleagues.
A project example is the area development of De Bulkenaar in Roosendaal, which aims to create an attractive and accessible green buffer between residential areas and the hospital. Arcadis has developed a comprehensive SSK estimate for the entire area development, which includes a new access road connecting to the highway, a structural overpass for a utility corridor of 600 m2, a connecting road with a railway underpass, and the development of a healthcare landscape. This is a significant integrated task worked on by a diverse team.
In summary, this is a versatile and broad challenge for someone with a civil engineering background who wishes to develop further as a young professional while contributing to challenging sustainable area development projects.
Requirements
- Completed degree in civil engineering
- Minimum of 3 years of work experience in civil engineering, including some experience as a cost expert/calculator
- Experience with AutoCAD is a plus
- Eager to learn and develop further in the field of cost expertise
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English
