The Role

Join Canonical, a rapidly expanding international software company, as a Junior Web Developer. In this role, you'll create and maintain high-quality websites and web applications while ensuring compliance with style guides. The Role

As a Junior Web Developer, you will work on modern web applications, focusing on high fidelity websites and user interfaces across various devices and browsers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain high-quality web applications using HTML, CSS (SCSS), and JavaScript (React and TypeScript).
  • Update existing projects, manage incoming requests for updates, and liaise with team members as needed.
  • Ensure consistency and high standards across the product portfolio and compliance with the web style guide.
  • Collaborate closely with UX and visual designers to create exceptional user experiences.

Requirements

  • University degree in engineering, STEM, Computer Science, IT, or equivalent.
  • Experience with modern web applications and a strong understanding of HTML, CSS (with SCSS), and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript component libraries and TypeScript.
  • Experience designing responsive user interfaces for various devices and browsers.
  • Proficiency in Git or other version control systems.
  • Awareness of SEO best practices and accessibility considerations.
  • Strong understanding of web performance in complex user interfaces.
  • Curiosity about technology and a desire to learn.
  • Based in EMEA timezones (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa).

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with Linux desktop technologies.
  • Experience with server-side languages like Python or NodeJS.
  • Background in large-scale React (with TypeScript) projects.
  • Previous open source contributions.
  • Relevant work experience.
