The Role

As a Senior Optical Designer, you will collaborate with a team of 60 professionals, engaging with various disciplines including optical manufacturing and system engineering. Your primary responsibility will be to initiate and execute the optical design process for imaging and illumination systems, from requirements gathering to final toleranced designs. You will also lead a small team, mentor junior members, and foster innovation within the Optical Design team.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and execute the optical design process for imaging and illumination systems.
  • Collaborate with system engineers on requirements and budget allocation.
  • Conduct analyses including straylight, polarization, diffraction, and cost assessments.
  • Lead a team of designers on larger projects and coordinate tasks with project managers.
  • Regularly discuss project progress, results, and improvements with the team.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in optical physics or engineering with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in optical design software such as Ansys Zemax OpticStudio and/or CodeV.
  • Experience with programming languages like Python or Matlab.
  • Ability to lead teams and coordinate project tasks and budgets.
  • Preferred experience in designing thermal infrared (TIR) instruments.
  • Optional experience in artificial intelligence, integrated photonics, nanophotonics, or opto-acoustics.
  • Proficient communication skills in English.
