The Role

Drive infrastructure projects to success by leveraging technical expertise and managing site operations effectively. The Senior Construction Management Engineer plays a crucial role in overseeing the implementation of infrastructure projects, ensuring adherence to design specifications, schedules, and safety standards. This position requires close collaboration with contractors, design consultants, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery.

The Role

You will assist in managing daily site operations, ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality standards. Your responsibilities include monitoring work progress, conducting site inspections, and preparing detailed reports on quality and safety compliance. You will also supervise contractor activities, verify work against contract documents, and support risk assessments and safety plans.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily site operations, ensuring adherence to project specifications and timelines.
  • Monitor work progress against approved plans and report potential risks or delays.
  • Verify compliance with contract documents and safety standards through regular inspections.
  • Supervise contractors’ work and assess completed quantities for payment recommendations.
  • Review variation orders for justification and compliance with design parameters.
  • Lead site meetings with contractors and stakeholders, maintaining accurate records.
  • Proactively identify and address construction issues to minimize project disruptions.
  • Coordinate technical documentation to meet project standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation including registers for drawings and payments.
  • Prepare technical reports and inspection checklists.
  • Support quality management through inspection plans and material checks.
  • Prepare regular project progress reports on physical and financial performance.
  • Maintain risk and issue registers, proposing mitigation measures as necessary.
  • Assist in bid evaluations and tender documentation preparation.
  • Facilitate effective communication with contractors, suppliers, and local authorities.
  • Mentor junior engineers and site personnel, participating in coordination meetings.
  • Support training sessions on project and construction management.

Requirements

  • Secondary school diploma with 7 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related fields with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in building construction, site supervision, or infrastructure project management.
  • Proficiency in quality control, monitoring, and reporting within construction projects.
  • Strong skills in collaboration and productivity tools (e.g., MS Office, G-Suite).

Nice to Have

  • Professional certification or membership in a civil, structural, or construction engineering association.
  • Experience in multicultural environments or UN system organizations in developing countries.
  • Background in development or humanitarian contexts.
  • Experience in project documentation and technical communication.
