The EU's bank
The EIB is the European Union's bank. We are the only bank owned by and representing the interests of the European Union Member States. We work closely with other EU institutions to implement EU policy.
A major player
As the largest multilateral borrower and lender by volume, we provide finance and expertise for sound and sustainable investment projects which contribute to furthering EU policy objectives. More than 90% of our activity is focused on Europe but we also implement the financial aspects of the EU's external and development policies.
Lending, blending and advising
Lending: The vast majority of our financing is through loans, but we also offer guarantees, microfinance, equity investment, etc.
Blending: Our support helps us unlock financing from other sources, particularly from the EU budget. This is blended together to form the full financing package.
Advising: Lack of finance is often only one barrier to investment. We can help with administrative and project management capacity which facilitates investment implementation.
The Role
This role is based at our headquarters in Luxembourg and requires regular office attendance. The EIB offers a unique opportunity to work in a truly international and multicultural environment, along with relocation support.

The Role
As a Gender Expert, you will be instrumental in shaping the Bank’s social development agenda with a focus on gender equality. You will enhance the Bank's commitment to environmental, climate, and social standards by fostering effective networks and ensuring alignment with EU Commission policies and practices of other Multilateral Development Banks. This position allows you to influence policy at a strategic level and contribute to long-term change.
Responsibilities
- Lead transversal policy initiatives and develop client offerings to strengthen women’s employment and leadership.
- Coordinate gender inputs for the Climate Bank Roadmap Phase 2 implementation.
- Mobilize external resources for strategic programs related to the care economy.
- Maintain relationships with the Government of Luxembourg and other strategic partners.
- Provide cross-service coordination and technical support to scale up gender results in line with Gender Action Plan III.
- Conduct training on the EIB’s financing for gender equality for staff and clients.
- Ensure alignment with the European Commission on gender definitions and approaches.
- Prepare speeches, communication materials, and integrate gender into corporate reporting.
Requirements
- University degree in a relevant field (sociology, social anthropology, social development, etc.).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in enhancing gender equality impact in investments.
- Strong knowledge of EU and International Gender Equality policy and practices.
- Excellent knowledge of English and/or French, with proficiency in the other being advantageous.
